Nature

About half of the country's land area is used for agriculture. Elsewhere in the country, there are meadows, pastures, and forests.
No part of the state is high enough for proper coniferous forests to thrive.
In the mountains, the climax species are beeches, and in the lowlands, the climax communities grow either oak forests or shrubby grasslands.

History

The Magyars, a Finno-Ugric people, migrated from the Eurasian steppes and began settling in the Carpathian Basin around 895 under Árpád's leadership.
They formed the Principality of Hungary, defeated the Moravians and Germanic forces, and established their rule in the early 900s.
Grand Prince Géza and his son Stephen I adopted Christianity, founded the Kingdom of Hungary in 1000, and integrated the region.
